At The Brilliant Feminine, we often speak about “Ubunifu”—the power of creativity, innovation, and self-expression. In December 2025, our Ubunifu Cohort took that spirit to the world stage, competing in the Mombasa Open Tong-Il Moo-Do International Martial Arts Championship.
From December 10th to 23rd, our students showcased what happens when discipline meets opportunity. Competing against athletes from around the globe, they represented our organization with unmatched integrity and resilience.
Celebrating Our Medalists

We are bursting with pride to recognize two standout athletes who brought home more than just experience—they brought home victory:
- Zulekha Mayu (Silver Medalist): Zulekha demonstrated incredible precision and heart in the Women’s Sparring (Under 24) category. Her silver medal is a testament to the power of the feminine spirit in combat sports.
- John Kiragu (Winner): John dominated the mat to become the Winner of the Men’s Sparring (18–24) category. His focus and competitive excellence set a gold standard for the entire cohort.
Beyond the Medals: The Ubunifu Journey
While we celebrate the wins, we also celebrate every member of the Ubunifu Cohort who stepped onto that mat. Martial arts is about more than “fighting”; it is about:
- Discipline: The early mornings and late nights of training.
- Resilience: The ability to get back up after a hit.
- Integrity: Winning with humility and losing with grace.
These students didn’t just represent themselves; they represented the future of a bold, empowered generation.
A Community of Support
Success is never a solo journey. We want to extend our deepest gratitude to the leaders who made this possible:
- Abdikadir Ismail: For your unwavering support and belief in the potential of our youth.
- Instructor Lona Abiero: For your tireless mentorship and guidance. You haven’t just taught them how to move; you’ve taught them how to lead.
“The mat is a mirror. It shows you who you are when things get tough. Our Ubunifu students looked in that mirror and saw champions.”
What’s Next for Ubunifu?
This championship is just the beginning. As we head into 2026, we are looking to expand our martial arts and mentorship programs to reach even more young people.
